What makes Live Lingua different from other online Spanish language lessons?

First and foremost, we are a husband and wife team that takes great pride in helping people learn Spanish language and cultures.

Taking everything we learned from teaching students in person, we translated the experience for a vibrant, immersive learning space online.

We know that our teachers are our most important asset.

We seek out university trained tutors that are native Spanish speakers and grew up in the culture.

Plus, the teachers are dedicated to providing quality education while also giving focused attention to each of their individual students.

Our deep value and knowledge of our teachers is what we use to pair you up with the perfect one for you. It saves you time and creates an ideal learning combination.

In addition to our 1-on-1 tutoring, we offer learning materials designed by Laura — my wife as well as Live Lingua’s co-founder and Academic Director with 20+ years experience teaching Spanish.

During lessons and homework opportunities, you will use Laura’s fantastic work.

Between your lessons, you can continue the immersion by practicing with our Live Lingua Spanish podcast.

And it’s all easy to use.

Book sessions quickly and make changes as needed through your student dashboard. With the reminders we send out via email, you can use each lesson to the max.

All from the comfort of your home — or wherever you are!

Proceed at your own pace, never miss content, and ask questions as often as you want.

Overall, you learn more in less time with Live Lingua.

Through a safe, accessible, and customizable format, reach your Spanish language goals with clear progress along the way.

Start today by replying with the dates and times and are available for your free trial lesson.

What happens after I submit my available dates and times for the free trial?

Our team gets to work.

Within a few hours, you’ll receive profiles for 3 professional Spanish teachers who’s background matches your goals and who’s availability matches yours.

Just reply with the one you prefer and we’ll get it booked right away.

Plus, you will receive an email with your log-in information for your personal student dashboard. Here you can learn more about your teacher, review class times, and purchase future classes.

Your teacher will make sure you have all the invitations you need for the online video connection. We primarily use Skype and send instructions for how to use it...but you can request other software (Zoom, Facebook Messenger, etc) if you prefer.

If you would like to cancel or reschedule a trial class that is no problem at all. Please just let us know at least 24 hours in advance if possible so that your teachers are not left waiting for the class.

What happens during the free trial lesson?

This is where the fun really starts…

You and your native Spanish speaking teacher will meet face-to-face via online video.

And then your class starts!!

Just like any immersive experience, your teachers will start speaking in Spanish and gauge your ability to understand and respond — using English when needed to clarify.

You can get right down to business talking about how to use Spanish in your specific job

Or laugh over your favorite foods…

And even explore what you both have in common.

You will also get a taste of the materials we use and how your teacher walks you through enriching lessons — all geared toward your specific Spanish skills and learning preferences.

Of course, the teacher will guide you every step of the way.

They are there to engage with you directly, make corrections as is helpful, and create a comfortable place for you to grow your Spanish skills.

At the end, please ask any questions you have to your teacher.

But first, reply to the email with the dates and times you are available so we can get it scheduled.

How long does the free trial lesson last?

30 minutes.

Then within a few hours, you will receive your teacher’s evaluation of your Spanish language level and a suggested plan of study.

After that, you determine the length of time you want each lesson to last (in 15 minute increments). Anywhere from 15-120 minutes.

Just sign up on your teacher’s calendar though your student dashboard.

Most students chose 60 minutes time slots.

Let’s get your first 30 minutes on the calendar now. Reply with dates and times that work for you.

Is there a required commitment to take more lessons after the free trial?

No.

In fact, we pride ourselves on NEVER requiring a long term commitment.

You decide when to have a lesson … for how long … and how often.

Purchase the time needed, and sign up.

Though, we do everything we can to make lessons affordable. One way we can do that is by offering bulk pricing when you purchase most lessons at one time.

(I’ll be honest though, if you are looking for the cheapest, we are not it as we try to have the highest quality anywhere).

Check out the pricing structure here.

What if I want a different teacher after the free trial?

If you felt that this teacher was not the perfect fit for you, don't hesitate to let your class coordinator know.

They can arrange a new trial class for you with another Live Lingua teacher right away.

They will ask you to answer a few more questions with as much detail as you can so that they can match you up with a more appropriate teacher for your learning style.

Questions like:

  1. What parts of the last trial class were not to your liking (presentation, teaching style, material, personality, etc)?
  2. What would you like to see included in your new trial class (more speaking practice, more grammar, translations, etc)?
  3. What days and times would you be available for this new trial class?

Please rest assured that we are here to work with you for as long as necessary until we match you up with your perfect online Spanish immersion teacher.

You are also welcome to work with more than one teacher. That way you can have even more flexibility with scheduling and practice your conversational Spanish with different personalities and accents.

You would be able to access both of their schedules from your student dashboard.

To schedule your first free trial lesson, reply with dates and times that work for you.

How do I schedule more lessons?

Enrolling in additional lessons is easy.

Just log into your Live Lingua Student dashboard.

Once you get in, click on the ‘Purchase Lesson' button and follow the instructions to pay through our secure online portal.

Since hours are valid for one year, take advantage of the bulk purchasing.

We recommend starting with at least 20 hours because your tutor will provide you with a personalized progress report after every 20 hours of lessons.

Then you can see how much you're improving — just like how I went from None to Advanced Low!

Of course, at any time you need help signing up for additional hours of lessons, your class coordinator is happy to assist.

Are there any countries that Live Lingua cannot work with?

Unfortunately, we do not accept payments from students in Iran. Additionally, Skype functionality has been restricted in the UAE, so classes from there are not possible to be taught.

I want to study more than one language at the same time. Is this recommended?

While we do not recommend studying two languages at the same time as most people tend to get their wires crossed, we are happy to make it work for you if it is part of your language learning goals. If you do learn more than one language, we find that people experience less confusion when they study unrelated languages like Spanish and Japanese or Italian and Chinese.

We also find that if you already speak two or more languages, then you may not have as many problems since your mind is already wired to differentiate between languages. But, of course, it always depends on the student.

How long do the lessons usually last?

While the free trial classes usually last 30 minutes, each paid class can be as long or as short as you want, permitting that the teacher has approved the time and can accommodate your request. Generally, though, lessons are 60-minutes-long.

What if I'm running late for my lesson? How long will my teacher wait for me on Skype?

Your teacher is required to wait 15 minutes from the start time of the class for you to connect. If, after 15 minutes, you have not connected to Skype to start the class, your teacher will treat the class as having been taken (charging you in full) if it is a paid class. For a trial class, they will mark you as a No Show.

What if my teacher and I are having connectivity issues?

If a class gets cancelled due to technical problems out of anyone's control such as weather, power outage, etc., the class will be made up. If the connectivity issue happens after a part of the class takes place, say 30 minutes, then the amount of class time taken will be charged and the rest will be made up at a later time.

How much should I expect to pay each month for classes?

As Live Lingua charges per hour, the cost per month depends on how many hours you'd like to purchase as well as which course you sign up for. The more hours you purchase together, the cheaper each hour gets. You can find a full breakdown of our hourly costs for each language and course here.

If I want to share my class with an additional student, how much more does the class cost per person?

With each extra person, the class cost increases by 50 percent. For example, if one person pays $14 USD per hour, then the second person would pay $7 USD per hour, totaling the class cost to $21 USD per hour.

How are payments made?

Payments can be made via credit card, PayPal, wire transfer or US dollar check.

How do I pay for classes?

Can I divide my credits between two or more teachers?

Of course! Your credits are yours to do with however you wish.
